A cloud of controversy surrounds Nyeri Town Member of Parliament, Duncan Maina Mathenge, as he finds himself at the center of serious allegations concerning a student’s school fees payment.
The MP on Thursday morning posted on Facebook about a student’s enrollment in Nyeri High School, accompanied by a fees payment receipt.
However, Esther Koi has come forward, refuting the MP’s claims and accusing him of spreading falsehoods for personal gain.
Koi alleges that the MP did not contribute to the student’s education and used the opportunity to market himself as a supporter of education in the constituency.
In her comment on the post, Koi stated, “This MP should stop telling lies. I don’t understand where you got the receipt of this school fees payment. You are using the receipt to market yourself and yet you contributed nothing.”
Koi further revealed that the family faced financial struggles for two weeks, reaching out to the MP for assistance during this period. Despite their plea, no support was provided.
According to Koi, the MP’s assistant met the student and the parents at Nyeri High School. He requested a photo and later used it to take credit for the fees payment.
Amo Muchiri, another social media user, suggested legal action against the MP.
“The family should sue the MP for using the photos to hoodwink the public, without consent, giving false information to his advantage, and subjecting the family to general public ridicule!” he says.
Pricey Nonnie has similarly expressed disappointment with the legislator’s action.
“Shame on him. It’s so sad that he’s trying to market himself without knowing the struggle those people went through.” she says.
Esther Koi has further revealed that she is in possession of a cheque that was signed by a certain company to pay the school fees.
She also says that the boy’s shopping was bought by contributions made by well-wishers, and not the area MP.
“The extent of all this is to please the community for sweat that doesn’t belong to him.” says Mr. Brian Muchemi.
The allegations against MP Duncan Maina Mathenge have sparked public outrage and raised concerns about the credibility of public figures during this back to school season.
Jey Maish regrets that Nyeri Town residents took a big gamble in the last election, especially on matters education.
“I will never stop saying that Nyerians gambled big time on matters education. Ngunjiri Wambugu is passionate about education, not as a politician but as a leader. He did it well.” She recalls.
“Am an alumni of Githwariga Primary and that school rose from the shambles and other schools. NG/CDF wakati wa Ngunjiri every needy kid got bursary….” She adds.
