Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru has had a remarkably busy week, spearheading multiple development projects and hosting a high-profile visit by President William Ruto.
On Saturday, August 10th, Waiguru welcomed President Ruto during his Kirinyaga development tour, where he launched and commissioned a series of transformative initiatives.
The President’s visit kicked off with the official opening of the Kirinyaga Central Technical and Vocational College at Kiangungu, alongside the Jitume ICT Hub, marking a significant step in enhancing technical education and digital literacy in the county.
Ruto also launched the tarmacking of 65 kilometers of link roads, ensuring better connectivity for Kirinyaga residents.
The day further saw the launch of the Last Mile Electricity Connectivity project in Kang’aru, which aims to power 5,795 homes across the county.
The President’s visit wasn’t just about infrastructure; it also had a personal touch as he visited the home of 67-year-old Mama Caroline Wanjira in Joyland village, Kagio, Ndia Constituency.
Recently connected to electricity, Mama Wanjira can now run her household and business with newfound ease, embodying the impact of government initiatives on ordinary Kenyans.
Additionally, the President broke ground for the Sagana Export Processing Zone Flagship Project and the Kirinyaga County Aggregation and Industrial Park, projects poised to revolutionize the local economy.
Waiguru, who was accompanied by Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua and local leaders, also visited the Sagana Aquaculture Research Centre, highlighting the county’s commitment to improving agricultural productivity.
On Monday, August 12th, Waiguru continued her development agenda by focusing on socio-economic empowerment and environmental sustainability.
In Mwea West, she distributed 101 fish pond liners as part of her administration’s plan to boost fish production from 71.3 tons to an ambitious 371 tons by 2027.
In a bid to enhance water distribution, Waiguru issued 72 HDPE pipes and 74 high-density pipe fittings, benefiting 7,500 users in Kangai and Kathiga Locations.
Additionally, the Governor distributed 1,800 chairs to 18 community group and provided uniforms to two football teams and 45 pairs of football boots to three teams.
