A distressing incident unfolded in Kagio, Kirinyaga County, where a secondary school student stands accused of fatally stabbing his cousin during a domestic altercation. The victim, a 12-year-old girl, tragically succumbed to her injuries shortly after the assault.
Acting swiftly on a tip-off, detectives apprehended the 17-year-old suspect, locating him in his hiding place and transporting him to Baricho Police Station for interrogation.
County Police Commander Andrew Naibei revealed that the Form Three student absconded immediately after perpetrating the crime last Friday.
According to relatives, the deceased was diligently engaged in her homework at home when the fatal attack occurred.
“I had gone to the market, leaving my daughter with the assailant to complete her homework. Upon my return, I was devastated to find her lying on the floor, grievously wounded,” lamented Pauline Wairimu, the grieving mother of the victim.
Despite swift efforts to rush the Grade Seven student to a nearby private hospital in Kagio town, she was pronounced dead upon arrival, plunging her family into profound sorrow.
“We are now engulfed in mourning following the tragic loss of our daughter,” expressed Wairimu, her voice trembling with grief.
Seeking solace in justice, the bereaved family demands accountability for the senseless incident, which has sent shockwaves through their community.
Teachers at Rwang’ondu Primary School, where the victim attended classes, fondly recalled her as an exceptionally bright student who consistently topped her class.
“The girl consistently ranked first in her class, and her untimely demise has deeply saddened us,” shared one of the teachers, reflecting on the tragic loss.
Despite the suspect’s status as a minor, the police commander affirmed that he would be held accountable under the law, underscoring the severity of the offense.
